Why are my headlights out of focus?
There are numerous reasons why your headlights may be emitting less light than they should. One of the most likely reasons is that the plastic headlight covers have faded. With harsh UV rays in New Zealand, this is a very common problem. What may have happened is that the UV protection layer has worn off, and the plastic is exposed. Imagine a person with no sunscreen protection - the skin will suffer. As with vehicles, the plastic lens will deteriorate quickly, affecting the lights and road visibility.
Why a headlight repair is necessary
Driving with clouded headlights might seem manageable, but it significantly compromises your safety and can result in failing your Warrant of Fitness (WoF) inspection for two main reasons.
First, the cloudiness on the headlight covers substantially diminishes the amount of light that can pass through. More crucially, it disrupts the headlight beam pattern, scattering light in various directions, including towards oncoming traffic, instead of focusing it on the road ahead.

- Clean the headlights and mask around the headlights with masking tape.
- We wet sand (2000 grit) the headlights by hand.
- Machine wet polish (6000 grit).
- Clean headlights and dry them.
- Apply a 2-pot UV Protectant layer.
